I don’t know about you, but summer is going by too fast! Still, I am trying to find some time each week to prep for Module 1. One of the grades that I will be working with this year is 3rd grade. Knowing this, I’ve started prepping some of the resources that I have found most helpful to provide to classroom teachers. These resources are built to allow students to learn and practice academic vocabulary orally. Let me share with you:
- Vocabulary word cards:
These are great for helping students learn the words. The picture provides context for students to better understand the word. Additionally, having a visual can increase memory of new learning! I recommend printing a set of these for the classroom wall as well as a smaller sized set for partner practice. Anytime you can increase oral practice with these words, you will be benefitting students. I’ve used these cards to play anything from memory to think-pair-share.
The vocabulary card pack also comes with premade sentence stem cards. These are AWESOME to have students orally practice the words in context!
Use these for stand up – hand up- pair up, whole group practice and more!
In addition to these word cards, a few other activities may be helpful for you to keep engagement up in Module 1.
